There's much to see here and we offer such unique services. So, take your time, look around, and learn a little bit more about about a few of our designers who make custom pieces. Additional designers are being added so feel free to check back regularly!
The Studio at Innisfree strives to follow the Fibershed model of connecting local farms and fiber producers to the consumers by sharing the story of the wool, which creates a direct connection from the animal to the finished product. We embrace slow fashion by creating durable products that, with proper care, can last for years. When their lifespan is through, these wool items can literally be put back into the soil to grow the grass that feeds the next generation of wool-producing sheep. Wool comes from our own flock in Miami County and a select few farms across the country (the majority being in the Midwest region). All wool comes from sheep living their best lives in the fresh air and sunshine, eating grass and hay to grow healthy, quality fleeces. Processing is done by a fiber mill in Butler County, Ohio.
We specialize in hand-woven or hand-knitted shawls, and hand-knitted hats. These functional items can be worn every day or for special occasions. We accept custom work on a limited basis for shawls and hats.
Turn-around times for custom work:
(a) Hand-woven shawl with client’s already chosen yarn (client has purchased yarn already and wants designer to weave shawl) - 4-6 weeks
(b) Hand-woven shawl with designer’s choice of purchased yarn (ie, the client gives a color scheme, but does not have “yarn in hand” and leaves it up to designer to purchase yarn in that color scheme) - 5-7 weeks
(c) Hand-woven shawl with designer’s hand-spun, natural color yarn (client wants shawl made from designer’s own sheep) - 8-10 weeks **seasonally available due to limited quantities**
(d) Hand-knitted beanie-style hat in client’s purchased yarn - 3-5 weeks / in client’s color scheme, designer’s chosen yarn 4-6 weeks / in designers hand-spun, natural color yarn 5-7 weeks (seasonally available due to limited quantities)
We charge a flat-rate fee for each shawl and hat. If the client wants a shawl or hat made from any yarn outside of wool/wool blend or acrylic, there may be an additional fee depending on the type of yarn. This fee will be determined on the yarn and the project, and will be thoroughly discussed and agreed on in writing with the client before both parties accept the project. Any additional charge may also vary depending on whether the client provides the yarn or if designer is purchasing yarn based on the desired color scheme.
I would be happy to go yarn shopping with clients. This service is to be paid for at the conclusion of the shopping trip, and acceptance of the project by the designer is not guaranteed. To meet at a Montgomery County yarn store, $25/hour (1 hour minimum charge). To meet in a Miami County yarn store $20/hour (1 hour minimum charge). Meeting at a yarn store in any other county will be charge on a case-by-case basis.
